Black Friday 2014

rsdlogo

The Holiday Season is almost upon us.  Black Friday (Nov 28) brings the indie record store a slew of exclusive releases.

First, there are no pre-orders or advance holds on any Black Friday release.

As always, we like to reward those who get here earliest and are most excited for the special releases without making the whole occasion about who camps out the longest.

We will be conducting our random drawing for high demand/limited titles at 9:30 am.

We will open at 10am with the first person in line being the first person to enter the store to shop the Black Friday titles.

What is the drawing & how does it work?

Everyone in line before 9:30 A.M. will be given the opportunity to fill out their Black Friday wishlist.  Basically, everyone requests the titles they want to purchase if they have the opportunity.  We will collect all the filled out wishlists at 9:30 A.M. sharp.  The filled out wishlists will be selected in random order and each person will be reserved the top 2 items on their wishlist, if the titles are still available.  These 2 items will be held in reserve behind the counter and cannot be purchased by anyone else even if they are further up in line.

So when should you show up?

If you want multiple titles,  it will be “first come, first serve” after the wishlist drawing is finished.  So getting here early will allow you the chance to be one of the first people to attack the Black Friday titles.

If you are just looking to get 1 or 2 titles, the key time is 9:30 A.M.  which is the deadline to submit a filled out a wishlist. Everyone who submits a wishlist has an equal opportunity to reserve that one exclusive title they desire.

Hope to see you on Friday

Mike

Album Feature: Half the City – St. Paul & the Broken Bones

StPaul

“Brother, can I get an ‘amen’? Amen! That’s the sentiment the listener gets after hearing Alabama based sextet St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Influenced by the church, specifically the black gospel tradition in addition to vintage soul, debut albumHalf the City is a legit soul LP in 2014. Soul and the year 2014 seem an unlikely pairing, particularly with the heavy reliance of electronic instruments and autotune, but the relationship proves to be one that’s ‘Simply Beautiful’ as Al Green would put it. St. Paul (aka Paul Janeway) leads the charge of the soul-band, delivering truly amazing, gut-wrenching vocal performances. Unafraid to get ‘down and dirty’ with it, Janeway’s Pentecostal influence coupled with a love for James Brown, translates nearly perfectly on Half the City…” – Brent Faulkner, popmatters.com (See full review here.)

Black Friday at Pure Pop

Hey Folks!

Time again to get some special releases that are only available at your favorite indie record stores.

We will be opening on Friday at 10 a.m. People will enter on a first come, first serve basis.  As always, we do like to provide everyone in line the opportunity to get their most desired items.  We will conduct a wish list drawing similar to what we did on Record Store Day.

If you are in line by 9:30 a.m., you will be able to hand in a wish list of up to 10 items that you would like to purchase.  We will randomly draw from the collected wish lists & reserve the top 2 items available from each drawn wish list.  These 2 items will be reserved for you behind the counter.

So please remember, first in line means first in the store but doesn’t guarantee that you will get all the items you desire.  First in line does mean that you will get first access to items that are not reserved thru the wish list drawing.

Thanks again for your understanding.  The wish list drawing went really well on Record Store Day, it allows  everyone a chance to get their hands on the items they desire without having to camp out in line for 4 hours.

I know many people are away for the holiday week.  If you are unable to make it to the store on Friday, we will start taking requests by phone/email on items beginning at 11 am.

There is a list below that Meg prepared that details all the special releases that Pure Pop has received for Black Friday.

Please note that will be having a sale on all non-Black Friday titles.*

10% vinyl/new cds/dvds/t-shirts/posters

20 % used cds

*does not include already discounted/sale items

It’s about that time…RECORD STORE DAY 2013 TITLES!

Greetings, Pure Poppers! Record Store Day is happening in less than a month– on Saturday, April 20, 2013. We’ve placed our orders for Record Store Day, and here are some of the items you can expect to see on the shelves on April 20. Please note that the exact products we will have in stock may deviate slightly from this list. You’re just seeing a list of what we have ordered, but the exact quantities that do (or don’t) get shipped to us are determined by the almighty Record Store Day Gods.

So grab a cup of coffee, pretend you’re actually doing something at work, position yourself strategically so your boss can’t see your computer screen…and enjoy.

Read this before reading this list: This list is not alphabetical. We’ve listed items based on how many we ordered, in descending order. In other words, we ordered way more copies of Phish’s Lawn Boy than the Rob Zombie 7″. Not that we don’t love Rob Zombie, but we’re trying to predict what y’all will want– and we know lots of you love Phish.

If you’re looking for something specific, we suggest using the “find” function (press CTRL+F and type in what you’re looking for) to skip to the item you would like to see.

Also, not all details of RSD items are listed in the brief description below. A product may be in gatefold packaging/on colored vinyl/on 180-gram vinyl/have a download code– even if the description here doesn’t say so. We’re just distilling the information given us to by our distributors to give you a complete list that isn’t too wordy. If you are looking for more details, we suggest you use the almighty internets– the Record Store Day website is an excellent place to start.

Finally, if something isn’t listed here, we probably aren’t going to have it on RSD. We are carrying the vast majority of what’s available, but not everything. When in doubt, ask.

Okay, so that’s that. Heeeeeere’s the list!

Phish, Lawn Boy LP: The latest Phish vinyl to be reissued. We’ve ordered a ton of these, since we know you guys will want them, but we won’t know just how many we’ll be getting until the week before Record Store Day.

Trey Anastasio, Trey Anastasio 7″: Picture disc of previously unreleased tracks. Could be a nice companion for your Lawn Boy LP, eh?

Page McConnell, Unsung Cities And Movies Never Made LP: A ten-track instrumental LP from another Phish member. This RSD exclusive release will be pressed on red vinyl.

Tame Impala, Tame Impala EP 12″: A reissue of Tame Impala’s pre-Innerspeaker EP on colored 12″ vinyl.
